Synonym:1-Hexadecylpyridinium bromide; N-Cetylpyridinium bromide; Cetylpyridinium bromide Section 2 - COMPOSITION, INFORMATION ON INGREDIENTS
Risk Phrases: 22 26 36/37/38 Section 3 - HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION EMERGENCY OVERVIEW
Harmful if swallowed. Very toxic by inhalation. Irritating to eyes, respiratory system and skin. Potential Health Effects Eye: Contact with eyes may cause severe irritation, and possible eye burns. Skin: Causes skin irritation. May be harmful if absorbed through the skin. Ingestion: Harmful if swallowed. May cause irritation of the digestive tract. Inhalation: May be fatal if inhaled. Dust is irritating to the respiratory tract. Chronic: No information found. Section 4 - FIRST AID MEASURES Eyes: In case of contact, immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Get medical aid immediately. Skin: In case of contact, immediately flush skin with plenty of water. Remove contaminated clothing and shoes. Get medical aid. Wash clothing before reuse. Ingestion: If swallowed, do not induce vomiting unless directed to do so by medical personnel. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Get medical aid. Inhalation: POISON material. If inhaled, get medical aid immediately. Remove victim to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Notes to Physician: Section 5 - FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES General Information: As in any fire, wear a self-contained breathing apparatus in pressure-demand, MSHA/NIOSH (approved or equivalent), and full protective gear. During a fire, irritating and highly toxic gases may be generated by thermal decomposition or combustion. This material in sufficient quantity and reduced particle size is capable of creating a dust explosion. Runoff from fire control or dilution water may cause pollution. Extinguishing Media: Use water spray, dry chemical, carbon dioxide, or appropriate foam. Section 6 - ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES General Information: Use proper personal protective equipment as indicated in Section 8. Spills/Leaks: Vacuum or sweep up material and place into a suitable disposal container. Avoid runoff into storm sewers and ditches which lead to waterways. Clean up spills immediately, observing precautions in the Protective Equipment section. Avoid generating dusty conditions. Provide ventilation. Evacuate unnecessary personnel. Approach spill from upwind. Section 7 - HANDLING and STORAGE Handling: Wash thoroughly after handling. Remove contaminated clothing and wash before reuse. Do not get in eyes, on skin, or on clothing. Keep container tightly closed. Do not breathe dust. Do not breathe spray or mist. Use only with adequate ventilation or respiratory protection. Storage: Keep container closed when not in use. Store in a tightly closed container. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from incompatible substances. Section 8 - EXPOSURE CONTROLS, PERSONAL PROTECTION Engineering Controls: Facilities storing or utilizing this material should be equipped with an eyewash facility and a safety shower. Use adequate ventilation to keep airborne concentrations low. Exposure Limits CAS# 140-72-7: Personal Protective Equipment Eyes: Wear appropriate protective eyeglasses or chemical safety goggles as described by OSHA's eye and face protection regulations in 29 CFR 1910.133 or European Standard EN166. Skin: Wear appropriate protective gloves to prevent skin exposure. Clothing: Wear appropriate protective clothing to prevent skin exposure. Respirators: A respiratory protection program that meets OSHA's 29 CFR 1910.134 and ANSI Z88.2 requirements or European Standard EN 149 must be followed whenever workplace conditions warrant respirator use.
